I'm not sure the Saints really ever expected Reggie to be a between-the-tackles type of runner. Payton's mostly used him as a perimeter player and tries to get him into open space - that's really his game. He's always worked best when in tandem with an inside runner, first Deuce and now Pierre Thomas. Looking back I wouldn't say he was worth the #2 pick in the draft, but really he's been a great fit for this team. If some team like the Browns picked him and needed him to carry the ball 25 times a game, that just wouldn't work. But he does what the Saints need him to do. At ~36 fumbles per career carry and his inability to run between the tackles 90% of his career make him a 'D' grade at best.
