NFL Thoughts – Week 11

  • The injuries to the Saints secondary mean that our old friend Mike McKenzie may be on his way back to NOLA!  Apparently his injured knee has recovered well.  With Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter out yesterday, plus Randall Gay getting dinged up, adding veteran depth can’t be a bad thing.  Hopefully Greer will at least be back for the MNF match-up against New England.
  • I’m still basking in the glow of yesterday’s win in Tampa.  That was about as much of a complete team effort as you’re going to see.
  • Are the Falcons cooked?  Well, they still have a shot at a Wild Card berth.  But it looks like their NFC South chances are all but done (being 5 games down with 6 to play!).  Thank you, New York Giants!  That said, Atlanta hasn’t looked very good for the past month or so.
  • Congrats to Matthew Stafford and the Lions.  Exciting win yesterday.  It almost makes me want to see what they can do on Thanksgiving against Green Bay.
  • Still, the NFL has to get rid of the old Thanksgiving traditional teams and move on to some more exciting games.
  • Darn you, Redskins.  I thought you were going to take out the Cowboys.  Well, they have a legitimate defense, that’s for sure…
  • What the heck happened to the Steelers?  They are so lucky the Bengals also stumbled in Oakland.  I like Big Ben, but nobody can continually take the kind of hits he does and have a long career.
  • Speaking of hits, I hope Kurt Warner recovers from that hit to the head he took yesterday against the Rams.  That’s always a scary sight.
  • I know, ESPN made a huge deal over the Colts yesterday and not the Saints.  I guess it’s because Indy has had to play escape artist the last several weeks.  Sometimes it looks like their winning streak is held together by duct tape, but hey they keep on winning.  You can’t find much fault with that.
  • Are the Vikings ever going to lose again?
  • I think the Broncos are dead.  You can’t lay an egg like they did yesterday in a battle for first place with the Chargers.  Of course, maybe when Kyle Orton comes back things will improve a little bit.
  • I was really hoping for a tie last night between the Bears and Eagles.  I don’t want to see either of them make the playoffs.  Probably don’t have to worry about Chicago, and I just get sick of Philly every year.
  • The Patriots looked good yesterday – but Mark Sanchez ain’t exactly Drew Brees (and I guess Josh Freeman isn’t the second coming of Tom Brady, either).  I can’t wait for Monday Night!
