Is the Wildcat That Scary?
I’m sure we’ll find out on Sunday, since nobody runs it better than the Miami Dolphins. I’ll be interested to see how Gregg Williams and the Saints defense will handle the formation. In Week 2, the Eagles had moderate success running the formation against the Saints, but didn’t hit for any big plays. But (excuse the pun) the Dolphins are a whole other animal.
Personally, I don’t think the Wildcat is viable for long-term use in the league. Like any other fad, it works until somebody figures out how to stop it. I remember a few years ago when everyone had to run the wide receiver screen. It gained a lot of yards for some teams initially and these days you’re lucky to get a first down out of it.
But I do admit that I had a lot of fun watching Miami take the New England Patriots by complete surprise when they pulled the ‘cat out of the bag last season. This Sunday, I’d have even more fun watching the Saints force the Dolphins to man up and play some real ball!
