Saints at Bills – From a Buffalo Perspective

So, how do Bills fans feel about Sunday’s match-up against our Saints? I asked Matt Loede from Bills Gab – The Definitive Buffalo Bills Blog – to provide some insight:

649px-Buffalo_Bills_Logo.svg1. What are the strengths of the 2009 Bills so far?
Fred Jackson has done a great job stepping up and taking the place of Marshawn Lynch, he’s kept the running game going in the loss of the team’s best back.  The D-line has also played well, as they stepped up and played well vs both the Pats and Bucs.

2. Do you believe Trent Edwards is the long-term answer at quarterback?
The jury is still out, but when he has been 100 percent and the O-line has kept him upright, he has the talent to make things happen.  I think I would right now have to say “yes,” he has what it takes to be the long-term starter at QB.

3. It seems a lot of Bills fans are already down on T.O. – what can he do to win them back?
Simple – do what he did last week, which is make catches and score touchdowns.  T.O. is all about presentation and self promotion, but at this point the Bills fans want to see results, and making plays and scoring is what will make him beloved by the Bills faithful.

4. Where did this Fred Jackson guy come from and, what do you think his role will be once Marshawn Lynch comes back?
Jackson has quietly been more and more of a weapon for the Bills, and last season had over 500 yards on the ground (571) and three touchdowns.  He reminds me of Chester Taylor and can and should be used that same way once Marshawn comes back.  He is a valuable third down asset to the team, and they should not forget about him when Lynch returns.

5. Looking at this week’s match-up against the Saints, what concerns you?
Of course the Saints offensive firepower has to be the main concern, and it has to concern any team in the league.  While the Saints haven’t been able to get to the QB a lot, they have been picking off passes, and Darren Sharper is off to a heck of a start. The Bills HAVE to pressure Brees and force turnovers to win this game, as well as control the time of possession.

6. What do you expect the Bills game plan to be?
Like stated above, they need to use Fred Jackson to eat up yards and clock. The key will be to keep Brees and that Saints offense off the field as much as possible.  They also need to try and get some short fields, and good play on special teams is a must there as well.  If they can do all that, they have a shot to win.

7. Your prediction for the game?
Right now the Saints are playing championship football, while the Bills took advantage of a weak Bucs team a week ago.  The Saints are playing unreal on offense, and the Bills simply don’t have the secondary to match up with that.
Saints 31 Bills 21

Many thanks to Matt Loede from Bills Gab!

That was nice to get the perspective of a Bills blogger on the upcoming game.

Here is a link to a preview of the game from the opposite perspective of a Saints correspondent/fan and friend of mine amed Joe who shares the duties of reporting on the Saints this season with myself:
