What If McNabb Can’t Play?

Will Eagles backup quarterback Kevin Kolb see action against the Saints?

Since Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb suffered a cracked rib yesterday in Carolina, there is a lot of question about whether he’ll be able to play against the Saints this Sunday.  For Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, he’ll now have to prepare his team to face a less than 100% McNabb or inexperienced backup Kevin Kolb.

Kolb certainly isn’t as mobile as McNabb, and you have to wonder if McNabb himself will be that mobile playing with such an injury.  We knew coming into this season that Gregg Williams likes to come after the quarterback, and this may be a great opportunity to do so.  Plus, he knows the Eagles well from his days coaching in Washington.

Since Michael Vick won’t be eligible to return to the field until Week 3 (and even then who knows how much he’ll actually play), the Saints defense will have a chance to show us how good their pass rush really is.  Regardless of who plays for Philly, they can’t be taken lightly.  Remember, good teams never underestimate their opponent.

It’s not out of the realm of possibility that McNabb could be effective or that Kolb could take full advantage of the opportunity to start.  It’ll be interesting to see how this unfolds as the week progresses.
